I got married 8 months ago and went on our Europe trip in March 2026, during which chasing the Northern Lights in Finland was the most highlighted part of the tour.

Actually we initiated our trip from Singapore to Finland and chose to complete our northern lights itinerary first and then fly to Paris and London.

Our Finland Northern lights itinerary

On 13 march 2026 it was Friday and we flew from Singapore to Finland boarding a mid night Singapore airlines from Changi. We landed Finland on the same date which was at-least mentally assuring that we at-least landed on the date on which we left and didn’t waste much time flying. March is considered to be a good season if you dont want to face the chilling cold of December, January and February of Finland. Special thanks to Tamara who informed us this before. December till February is the season of bone chilling winters in Finland. From Mid march things start getting better.

Arrival day of our Finland northern lights tour

When we arrived we were a bit tired and wanted to grab the bed. The tiredness was of pre preparations more than the flight heaviness. We were planning this tour since long, and even after long planning, many things were done at the last moment, thanks to my husband’s habit of delaying, hahaha.

Because we had already booked our itinerary through finlandtour.fi that included cab transfers, tours and stay, we didn’t had to worry about booking a cab from airport to our hotel in Helsinki city. The airport is around 20-25 kms from the Helsinki city. Our driver was waiting for us at arrival Hall which made our arrival comfortable and worry free.

He then dropped us to our city centered hotel in Helsinki. Radisson Blu plaza was just near the famous Helsinki attractions as well as was near the Helsinki central station. So the location was perfect. The only negative we felt was the size of the room which we shared with our tour coordinator in finalndtour.fi. But we then understood that rooms in the hotel that is located in central Helsinki will be small due to scarcity of space. On this day we decided to take rest and save our energies for upcoming tours.

Day 2 – Porvoo Village

This day in morning we woke up early as we wanted to walk around the city and get familiar to it. Helsinki is an amazing city with amazing architectural showcase all around. We went back to our hotel and had breakfast. Today was our day to visit Porvoo village the medieval town. As we left the city behind, the scenery gradually transformed into beautiful countryside with charming wooden houses and lush green landscapes. We were excited to explore one of Finland’s oldest towns, known for its colorful riverside warehouses, cobblestone streets, and rich history. It felt like we were stepping back in time as we approached this picturesque destination.

It was amazing with Daniel, he picked us up from hotel, took us to Porvoo, gave us an overview and everything was perfectly placed. By around 15:00 we were back in the city, took rest and at night we went for our exploration.

Day 3 – Saariselka’s Kakslauttanen arctic resort

This day it was time for us to leave Helsinki and arrive Lapland. Yes, we had breakfast and checkout from hotel to get our Finnair flights from Helsinki to Ivalo. Though Helsinki was also snowy, but Ivalo from flight was looking as if there is a white sheet spread everywhere. It was beautiful and chilling. We were again picked up from Ivalo airport and taken to Saariselka, a small village in Ivalo region of Lapland.

Here finlandtour.fi had booked an Igloo resort for us (Kakslauttanen arctic resort). It was a huge property with lands in acres. Kakslauttanen arctic resort is divided into villages, East village and west village. As far as we understood, east village was built first and after seeing the tourist demand, the west village with more attractions and rooms was built.

We were staying in West village’s Kelo Igloo room which was the 2nd highest category in Igloo rooms. This room offers the wooden roof structure as well as the glass roof in Igloo shape.

What was more interesting of this resort is its planetarium. We checked in our room and felt so amazed, that i will never forget what i experienced. By the way, they gave us luggage to carry our bags from reception to room. It was totally a different experience. It was the point when i felt that my Singapore to Finland tour got successful. But, there was northern lights to come. In the evening we were ready for our reindeer sledge northern lights hunt.

Wow reindeers, they were like ready to pull and make us see northern lights. These reindeers took us to different places and fortunately the day was good for northern lights occurrence. Finally, on the very first day in Lapland, we were able to witness northern lights with goosebumps.

Day 4 – Snowmobile Safari and enjoyed resort

It was a kind of leisure day, we woke up around 6, explored the resort and it was fun, then had breakfast and around 9:45 am we gathered for our 2 hours Snowmobile Safari. Well for us we have never even drove the ATV so snowmobile was totally a new puzzle for us to solve. It took us some time but then we joined the gang of snowmobilers.

We felt thrilled with the ride, although it was but tiring also. But it was fun, exploring the Finnish wilderness on snowmobile. Few important things, you need to have license, finlandtour.fi forgot to tell us this, luckily we had, also they offer thermal clothes so dont have to worry and just on enjoying it, you may sit behind someone if not comfortable riding.

Rest of the day we spent in resort giving our body some relief and some good food from resort’s restaurant.

Day 5 – A beautiful ride to Rovaniemi & Northern lights hunt by bus

Day 5, we woke up late, had breakfast and checked out of resort. Around 11:00 am our lady driver Maria was waiting for us and we started our beautiful journey to Rovaniemi. Oh my god, what beautiful villages, what scenery, “””Finland Emily Loves you”””. It was my shout from inside. It took us 3 hours to reach from Saariselka to Rovaniemi.

After arriving Rovaniemi, we had lunch and we got checkin around 15:30 in our new hotel – Scandic Rovaniemi city. It was a city centered hotel with an amazing street around . The evening vibe of Rovaniemi city is amazing. Cafe’s, tourists, food, Santa etc etc. In the evening we had our northern lights hunt tour by bus. The weather was not good, so we already knew we are not going to witness northern lights today.

Day 6 – It was the day to visit most popular Santa Claus Village

Well the day arrived, we wanted to witness arctic line, meet Santa, send post card from Santa’s office and many other things here. Tamara from finlandtour.fi had already arranged 500 meters husky sledge ride, lunch and snowman world entry ticket for us. We reached Santa Claus village exactly at 10 and started our dream day. It was fun, though now i feel that it has become a bit more commercialized which might be because of more number of tourists coming.

Yes we crossed arctic line, got ourselves clicked with Santa, sent post cards, did husky sledge, enjoyed snowman world and every thing was fun.

We came back to our hotel around late afternoon and enjoyed the rest of the day exploring the streets.

Day 7 – The Ice Breaker cruise – This operates only in Russia and Finland

We were also excited about the ice breaker cruise with ice floating opportunity. Yes, the reason i mentioned above, it happens only in Russia and Kemi in Finland. They make you board the cruise that will move ahead and break ice, it was totally a different experience and worth it.

They also ask you to float and walk on frozen sea for which you need to wear the thermal suits and it was mind bobbling experience. They take you in a bus to Kemi from Rovaniemi which is around 120 minutes journey one sided. You need a whole day for this activity and it was definitely fun.

Day 8 – The end of our Finland northern lights itinerary

Well, i never wanted to leave and wished i could have spent more time. You usually dont plan a Finland tour from Singapore again if done once, but i might do it because i loved the country alot. It was the day we flew Paris from Rovaniemi and had to leave Finnish Lapland.

If someone have any questions and want me to answer, i would love to answer it by my experience of Finland northern lights tour from Singapore.
