About this tour

Why should you book this 12D Finland & Norway tour with Kirkenes, Utsjoki, Saariselka & Rovaniemi

This 12 day Finland & Norway tour is designed for travellers who want to experience the Arctic beyond the usual Rovaniemi holiday. One of its biggest highlights is Utsjoki, one of Finland’s northernmost destinations, where you get to experience a quieter, more remote side of Finnish Lapland away from the busier tourist areas. Staying at Utsjoki Arctic Resort in a Kelo Igloo, enjoying a reindeer sleigh Northern Lights hunt, and travelling through the untouched Arctic landscapes gives you a genuine feeling of being far north.

The journey then continues through Kirkenes, with its famous Snowhotel and King Crab Safari, before taking you to Saariselkä and Rovaniemi for Glass Igloos, Ice Fishing, Santa Claus Village, husky sledding, Ranua Wildlife Park and an Icebreaker experience.

With the combination of Arctic Norway, remote Utsjoki, Finnish Lapland, unique accommodations and Northern Lights opportunities, this is a journey for travellers who want more than just a standard Lapland tour.

A Kelo Igloo combines the traditional Finnish Lapland character of a Kelo log cabin with a glass-roofed section, providing a unique Arctic accommodation experience.

A Glass Igloo is an accommodation featuring a large glass roof or glass ceiling, allowing you to enjoy panoramic views of the Arctic sky from the comfort of your room. If conditions are suitable, it can also provide an opportunity to view the Northern Lights directly from your accommodation.

No. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The itinerary includes multiple Northern Lights opportunities in different Arctic locations to give you several chances, but visibility depends on factors such as solar activity, cloud cover, darkness and local weather conditions.

The itinerary includes Northern Lights opportunities such as a Reindeer Sledge Northern Lights Hunt in Utsjoki and a Northern Lights Hunt by bus in Rovaniemi. Your accommodation in Arctic locations may also provide opportunities to watch the sky independently.

Northern Lights activities are dependent on weather, safety and operating conditions. If an activity needs to be changed or cancelled, the operator’s applicable terms and conditions will apply. The Northern Lights themselves cannot be guaranteed or controlled by the tour operator.

The King Crab Safari in Kirkenes gives travellers the opportunity to experience the Arctic environment and learn about the region’s famous King Crab. Depending on the season and operating conditions, the experience may involve travelling to the crab-catching area and viewing or handling the catch under the guidance of the local operator.

Suitability depends on the child’s age, height and the operator’s safety requirements. Families travelling with young children should confirm the applicable age restrictions before booking.

The Icebreaker experience allows you to travel aboard a powerful vessel designed to navigate through frozen Arctic waters. You can experience the frozen sea, observe the Icebreaker’s operation and enjoy the surrounding Arctic scenery.

Yes, where included in your selected Icebreaker package, you can participate in an ice-floating experience using a specially designed flotation suit. The activity is conducted under professional supervision and according to the operator’s safety procedures.

You should follow the specific requirements provided by the Icebreaker operator. The flotation suit is designed to keep participants afloat, but participants must follow all safety instructions and disclose any relevant limitations to the activity provider.

This depends on the specific Husky operator and package selected. The activity is conducted according to the operator’s safety procedures and may involve a guide/driver handling the sled.

Santa Claus Village is one of Rovaniemi’s most famous attractions. The itinerary includes:

  • Meeting Santa Claus
  • Crossing the Arctic Circle
  • A 2 km Husky Sledge Ride
  • Snowman World entry
  • Free time to explore the village

  • Thermal base layers
  • Warm fleece or mid-layer
  • Insulated winter jacket and trousers

The itinerary includes outdoor Arctic activities such as snowmobiling, husky sledding, ice fishing, King Crab experiences and ice floating. Most activities are designed for general travellers, but some require participants to be comfortable spending time outdoors in cold conditions.

Senior travellers can generally enjoy the itinerary, but individual activities may have specific health, mobility or age requirements. Anyone with mobility limitations should inform the tour operator before booking so suitable arrangements can be checked.

Yes, many experiences are family-friendly, particularly Santa Claus Village, Ranua Wildlife Park and selected Arctic activities. However, individual experiences may have age or height restrictions, so these should be checked before booking.

The itinerary is primarily designed for the Arctic winter season, when snow activities and Northern Lights experiences are available. Exact operating periods vary by activity and season.

Snow conditions vary according to the season and location. The northern destinations such as Utsjoki, Saariselkä and Rovaniemi generally offer strong winter conditions during the main Arctic season, but weather is naturally variable.

Meals are included where specifically mentioned in the itinerary. Breakfast is included on the scheduled days, and dinners are included on the nights specifically stated in the package. Other meals are generally at the traveller’s own expense unless mentioned otherwise.

We loved experiencing Finnish Lapland beyond the usual tourist stops.

We loved experiencing Finnish Lapland beyond the usual tourist stops. Utsjoki was peaceful, beautiful and felt genuinely remote. The combination of Kirkenes, Utsjoki, Saariselkä and Rovaniemi made this a memorable Arctic journey.

This was a completely different kind of holiday from our usual trips. The Arctic scenery around Utsjoki and Saariselkä was incredible, and the journey through northern Finland made the trip feel like a real adventure. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned.

The itinerary was well paced and gave us enough time to enjoy the surroundings.

The Lapland experience was fantastic. We particularly enjoyed the quieter northern destinations rather than staying only in Rovaniemi. The itinerary was well paced and gave us enough time to enjoy the surroundings.
